As rock n’ roll has begun its return to prominence in the 2019 musical landscape, leading the charge from the buzzworthy, burgeoning Nashville rock scene are The Ivins.
Branding themselves “Loud Alternative,” led by brothers Jim and Jack Ivins, the band has scored glowing comparisons to artists like Jane’s Addiction, Stereophonics and Arctic Monkeys, while standing out as a unique vessel in rock; blending elements of the familiar to pull in listeners, while continuing to give them an experience unlike any one band.
This is put on prominent display in the band’s new single, “Certain,” a hypnotic, grooving head-banger that transitions from loud to quiet with ease. The song stands out as a dazzling amalgam of influences - Eastern-flavored riffs over the bed of a serpentine bassline from bassist Regan Akers, soccer-stadium-style gang vocals, culminating in a blistering 45-second baroque-inspired solo from lead guitarist Hatton Taylor to bring the song to its frenetic conclusion. “Certain” is just the beginning of what the band have in store for Nashville and beyond, as they prepare to release a new album by year’s end, produced by Michael Zuehsow (Colt Ford, Cherub).
The band’s debut, 2017’s The Code Duello, was brought to life with the help of Grammy winner Michael Rosen (AFI, Papa Roach), Grammy nominee Mark Needham (The 1975, Imagine Dragons), as well as American Music Award winner Bill Leverty (Firehouse), and contained the song “Tell Me,” which was featured on Fox Sports.
To The Ivins, “Loud Alternative” is a means for invigorating listeners with the hooks and feelings of modern alternative, mixed with the power, deep lyricism and emotion of what alternative music and culture was founded on during its inception in the 90’s. With this new, modern stamp on the culture at the forefront of The Ivins’ brand, you can always count on the music being three things: relevant, immediate and meaningful.
